Program

  • General principles for the MOF preparation: organic-inorganic precursors, modulators synthesis solvent, reaction temperature and pressure. Influence in the quality of the final material.
  • Chemical, mechanical and thermal stability of the as-prepared MOF. Influence of the chemical interaction between the metallic node and the organic linker.
  • Defects!!!! Influence of the modulator in the final number of structural defects. Methodology to calculate them.
  • Alternatives to the conventional solvothermal batch synthetic approach. The benefits of flow synthesis in the overall process.
  • Hydrothermal synthesis vs solvothermal synthesis. Sustainability of the process and influence in the final catalytic activity of the MOF.
  • Applications of MOFs. A general review.
  • MOF-derived materials. Applications. The importance of the isolated metallic cluster spaced by organic ligands.
  • Design of an ideal heterogeneous enzyme-like catalyst. The important role of the active site and the chemical environment.
  • Brönsted and Lewis acid/base sites in MOFs. Model catalytic reactions.
  • Probe molecules and techniques employed in the characterization of the active sites in MOFs. NMR and IR spectroscopy.
  • Practical lab class. Synthesis of hydrothermal Zr-MOF-808. Catalytic activity for the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction of acetophenone with isopropanol.
  • The importance of the electron transfer and conductivity in the final electrocatalytic activity.
  • The exceptional catalytic properties of the Hf-MOFs in comparison with their Zr analogues.
