Course objectives
The course has two main goals:
- to provide an overview on the principles, components and applications of chemical sensors
- to enable the participants to identify the chemical sensors that can be of use in the research studies in
which they are involved.
In particular, one lecture will be focused on the possibilities of using chemical sensors in the specific
research fields in which each participant is working. For this reasons, the participants are invited to contact
the lecturer about two weeks before the course and explain their research interest.- Oggetto:

The course will be delivered on-line by Webex Meeting (in streaming) at the end of September 2020, due to the COVID-19 emergency.

Program
Research and development on chemical sensors has dramatically increased in the last decades and new
materials, setup and approaches are continuously being introduced. The following topics will be addressed:
- Introduction to the general properties of chemical sensors
- Classification of chemical sensors according to the transduction mechanism: optical, electrochemical,
mass-sensitive, magnetic, thermal
- Classification of chemical sensors according to the constituent material and recognition element
- Acquisition and processing of signal for chemical sensors; remote sensing; coupling of sensors and
smartphones
- General applications of chemical sensors in the environmental, food, clinical, industrial fields
- Selected applications of chemical sensors: this section will be tailored according to the research interests
