Program
This short course will introduce the students to the characterization facilities available in the Department, providing a framework for considering strategic and tactical issues, with emphasis on materials characterization. It will give an overview of the most common techniques and methodologies available to determine the nature the structure and the composition of materials. The course will present basic descriptions of techniques and methodologies, together with representative case studies, focusing on practical aspects and adopting a trouble-shooting approach.

Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS)
Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) + Field-flow fractionation (FFF)
Automated image analysis (particle size and shape)
Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)

Thermal analysis (TGA, DTA, DSC)
X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF)
