Course objectives
This is an introductory course in the synthesis, characterization and applications of carbon nanomaterials.
Didactical objectives are:
- to understand the chemistry of the different forms of nanocarbon
- to learn about the different carbon nanomaterials and their applications

Program
The course covers the following subjects:
- Nanomaterials: general introduction and main definitions and classification of nanomaterials
- General methods of synthesis and purification of carbon nanomaterials
- Chemical functionalisation (covalent and non-covalent) of carbon nanomaterials
- Chemico-physical characterization of carbon nanomaterials (spectroscopy, microscopy, thermal analysis)
- Applications of carbon nanomaterials
The classes of carbon nanomaterials that will be covered in details are:
- a) fullerenes
- b) nanodiamonds
- c) carbon nanotubes
- d) carbon nano-onions
- e) carbon nano-horns
- f) carbon dots
- g) graphene derivatives
