Course objectives

This course is intended to provide an overview on exhaust after-treatment systems with a special focus on automotive applications. 

Didactical objectives are:

  • to understand the design of the automotive catalytic reactors: structure, materials and physical/chemical properties
  • to identify the main mechanisms of catalyst ageing processes and the most important analytical investigation techniques

  • Catalysis for automotive emissions – historical overview and legislation
  • Review of thermodynamics and kinetic
  • Catalytic systems for spark ignition engines
  • Catalytic systems for diesel engines
  • Ageing processes on catalysts
