Program

The course will consist of 4 seminars of 3 hours each (12 hours = 3 CFU). Each seminar will be structured in two parts: 1) an historical introduction of a topic strictly related with the most recent developments in the research area of molecular science, followed by a brief feedback from the audience; 2) a discussion focused on the epistemic aspects underlying the research topic, that will be fostered by short explanatory introductions and by questions proposed by a discussant. The slides and some relevant bibliographic material will be diffused prior to each seminar.

Each seminar will tackle the following topics:

Title

Issue

Big data, simulations and creativity

Computational chemistry, virtual labs: building new knowledge through the developments of informatics tools

Nanotechnology, nano-objects, nanoworlds

A new perspective of investigation: halfway between the macroscopic and atomic levels

Proteins, genes, informational molecules: a chemical glance at the biological universe

The intertwining of chemical and biological knowledge provides final answers or opens new questions?

Scientific publishing and bibliometry: tools or weapons?

Does the exploitation of Informatics tools (Bibliographic databases, social networks, etc.) change the way scientific knowledge is built up, shared and assessed?

Suggested readings and bibliography
